Preventive care should consist of more than just annual vaccinations. The cornerstones of equine preventive medicine include good nutrition, proper immunization, appropriate deworming, routine dental care, and annual wellness exams. Proper immunization can be life-saving, particularly when it comes to Rabies Virus, West Nile Virus, Sleeping Sickness, and Tetanus. While vaccinations can prevent these deadly diseases, they may not protect your horse at all if given in the improper location, expired, or stored improperly.
